Silicone Inserts ooo er!

Nope, not the funbags kind, sorry lads!

And onto my latest k20 issue

My k20 motor is running all 4 of the H22 stock rubber mounts, it still vibrates a tiny amount at idle (no balance shafts like the H22) but as soon as you put the radio on you can't hear it. The problem is that the motor still rocks around like a fat kid on a spring horse, you can feel & see the engine moving around quite a bit. I am contemplating fitting a silicone insert to either the front or rear mount only. Has anybody fitted just the one and did it make a huge difference to vibrations transmitted to the chassis? Otherwise I might have to get creative with a vacuum based engine damper..

I've only done the front one, and it made a massive difference. Just the usual inserts, so not too traumatic to do either.

I've filled the front, gearbox and cambelt side mounts, which made a great difference but has not added to vibrations.

I have poly all round. In car vibrations are marginal TBH.

I've ES poly bushed the front, which didn't increase vibrations at all, then also did the rear and it vibrates like a bitch IMO

So yeah, just do the front - the engine will stiffen up nicely, but you won't shake any body panels off...

Ok cool. So which would be best; silicone squirted into the mount or a polybush insert? Do they do the polybush inserts in different grades of hardness?

The inserts are all the same hardness, come in a pack of front and rear. Means you can try one out and if you don't get the results you want can try both or vice versa.

Yeah, no choice in stiffness, but you can get them in either red or black and they're pretty cheap from funkypower.

(Don't know if you can specify which colour you want though or it's pot-luck - give them a call and check...)
