Powersteering pump belt help
Powersteering pump belt help
I have had a squeeling power steering pump belt for a while and been meaning to change it ,
Tonight a rattle started and the squeeling became constant ,
The belt has now snapped and gone somewhere so I have no power steering
I'm going to get a new pump and belt and change the auxiliary belt whilst I'm there
Is the car safe to drive without the power steering belt ?
Does it run anything else ?
Any help is appreciated as I need to get to work tomorrow
Thanks in advance

Yeah it is very heavy which is a pain but I need to get to work, just wanted to make sure I'm not going to damage anythingGreenyUK wrote:I wouldn't advise driving it. The steering is very very heavy. It's not like old cars or cars with PAS, they are made to work with out it.
A pas equipped car with out it become very heavy. And parking well hope you've had weetabix

it's okay now I think the noise was my aux pulley as this morning my aux belt jumped off, I removed the pulley and the key way is really worn and the key steel in the side of the block is broken :/W1ggz wrote:im guessing theres no difference between 4th and 5thgen pumps someone should be able to confirm.

I drove my 5g without power steering for 3 days and it was the worst 3 days of my driving life, but it wont do any damage, the belt only drives the power steering pump and nothing else, the alternator is fed from the other aux belt.
It can be a bit of a pain to get th enew belt hooked around the crank pulley, but use a long screwdriver or similar to push it down between the pulley and the arch and you should be fine, remember to tension the pump to the same as it is now or it might slip / snap
