Lude and trailer weights.

Post by Thebusofwoe » Wed Jun 11, 2014 10:50 pm

Guys can anyone help. I MIGHT be planning on trailering the lude to track days next year. Now I have looked at my licence, and because I got it in 2006, I can tow up to 750kg. IF I want to tow a trailer with load that is heavier than 750kg, I CAN tow a TOTAL COMBINED weight (towing vehicle and trailer with load) MAM of 3,500kg.

So my question is A) does anyone know how much the average trailer would weigh that could carry a prelude, and B) what weights has anyone got with there prelude (no 4ws, abs ect). If it exceeds the 3.5 tonnes then I will have to do a B+E licence (trailer).

I am planning on selling my Aerodeck and getting something that can tow 1.5-1.8 tonnes :?

Now the way I'm thinking of it is if the lude weight is around 1200-1300kg, a trailer weight of 2-300kg maybe = 1,500-1,600kg and a towing vehicle weight of 1,600-1,700kg and a towing capacity of 1,500kg. I will be under the limit of my licence but on the limit of the capacity of the towing vehicle

Or am I just being stupid

Cheers guys

There is the option of hiring a recovery style truck instead of either of us buying a van and trailer, 1 car on the truck and 1 driven then if the worst happens we have the place for 1 ? For under £200 for a weekends use

Yea see what ur saying but I'd rather have something more permanent, so I can take the car off the road e.g no tax or insurance ect. And that would turn out quite expensive I'd imagine. But good thought tho :D :)

Personally I don't think it's your train weight but what your using to haul it bud.

To add to it. my mate took an ifor Williams trailer chassi and welded two ramp type runs onto it and added a manual winch and it still came under a ton. Mind you it was solid axles no suspension lol.
