My Dad's Prelude

Post by stickleback » Sun Jun 22, 2014 9:04 am

Hi Everyone -

I'm not really sure where the best place to post this is - so perhaps one of the board admins can move it to the best board - thanks!

My father lives in the UK - he has an 89 Prelude with 4WS and there is a problem with the rear right ABS Sensor. The part number is: 57470SF1971

Apparently the sensor cable needs changing and Honda stopped making them some year ago... I'm probably not telling you guys anything new.

We've scoured the wrecker's in the UK and searched online - there are sites that list the part, but then when you go to check out they tell you it's not in stock.

Does anyone here know where we might source one? Does anyone have one sitting in a parts box :sigh: in their workshop?

any advice would be welcome - he has been told that the car will not pass the MOT and the options are then upsettingly limited - scrapping the car - which would be such a shame as he loves the car and has had it since new - almost 25 years.... and apart from this problem the car is in fabulous condition.

Thanks for your help - hoping to be able to cheer up my Dad!

have you tried calling round your local motorfactors? there are plenty of parts that get remade for other cars that will fit yours maybe? Give them the part number and ask if they have something like. Or take the busted one in and measure it against existing stock.

good luck with the hunt. keep a look out on here for cars getting broken.
6th gen Prelude please Mr Honda. RWD 2.4 turbo lude.

You can take an abs sensor from a newer mk4, and the swap the plug over. You may need to get creative with bolts and washers to make it sit right, but it does work. Had to do this on my mk3 prelude

rockauto.co.uk list them as available, around £60?
There's a discount code on here for use with rockauto too.

I couldn't find it looking under an 89 model, but looking under 90, they show up.

There was a third gen in the scrapyard near me if that's any help? No idea where you're located but it's in Hertfordshire.
