HELP PLEASE?? CAR WONT START.

Post by crigal.bb6 » Tue Jul 01, 2014 7:11 pm

Hi all. I have had my 5g sitting for a year or two and decide to get it running again. Its not starting so decided to do a fault code check and it has thrown two ABS light fault code up and they are 54. Fail safe relay, 81. Central processing unit (cpu). Could anyone point me in the right direction as I have not go a clue what the beep they are?? lol.
Please help :(

ABS would have nowt to do with not starting, surely? (But ABS fault codes could be caused by the fact the engine isn't running?!)

Hi ive been helping crigal.bb6 with his car. Would anyone have any suggestions as to why the car wont start? It turns over freely and it has a good spark. We put some fuel in it. We have been racking our brains about what could be the issue. Any help greatly appreciated.

No idea about the codes, and I am thick when it come to mechanics, but surely if it turns over and you have a spark, the timing won't be wrong so it must be a lack of fuel? Can you hear the fuel pump prime? Is the fail safe relay a fuel or injector cutoff?

Excuse wild speculation, I am drunk. And useless at mechanics.

Good luck with it.

We put fuel in it and it did initially fire then blew the 100amp battery fuse. We replaced that and also swapped the ecu for one out of my old car as the one in it had gotten wet whilst it sat & rusted.

Just to clarify it fired with the original ecu. We suspected that could have been the cause of the fuse blowing so decided to swap it

Code 54 - Page 19-59 to 19-60 of the 5th gen manual
Code 81 - Page 19-62 of the 5th gen manual

I wouldn't worry about the ABS yet, until you've got the engine running though.

how do you know you have spark? is fuel getting through to the engine ? could the main relay be the issue? have you changed out the ignition switch (this is where my money is on)?
