eBay Rant

Post by jjmartin349571 » Mon Jun 30, 2014 9:55 pm

Starting to have a potential ball ache on eBay

I bought this under-car fuel pump for my Golf.

I expected to get what was in the image, the pump, pump housing and fuel filter. Cue today, when the whole unit turned up as expected. Apart from it had been packed badly (the whole unit was jammed in a box that it only just fitted in, there was a bit of bubble wrap chucked on it but the hoses attached to it were pressed against the edge of the box as well as the edges of the unit itself) and in transit the union for the return hose has snapped where one of the rigid hoses has been knocked presumably. This renders it useless to me as if I install it on my car it will body lemonade petrol everywhere.

Can you see where this is going though

I messaged the seller, and it turns out he's deciding to be rather pedantic about what was meant in his listing when he stated it was for the fuel pump  yes if you want to be really pedantic the centre section that unscrews is the actual part that does the pumping, and so he doesn't think he has any obligation to do anything regarding this as he reckons that part works (it may well do). I kind of feel it's splitting hairs though... He showed the whole unit in the photo - if it was just for the centre part then it could have been made clear the housing wasn't part of the listing. Kind of weird to send the housing as well though if that's the case, why not just send the central pump... The housing is the part most Golf owners want anyway, as the central part is pennies on GSF etc... It's almost as if the housing was shown to make the listing more tempting to potential buyers :x

Anyway, I want to send it back as it's no use to me, so I've opened a case and will see what happens. After all, if the the pump sans housing is all he was offering, he can always have the whole thing back, bin the housing and resell it

So there we go. Now give me sympathy/lay into me for being a kebab and getting mislead whichever you choose  I'm more annoyed at myself than anything, just want my Golf working and hate pissing money up the wall/falling for jobby.

Just tell PayPal, they'll refund you without any issues (because they're a bunch of pricks)

This is a simple one - that bloke is a rhubarb!

Paypal are indeed pricks though, so who knows which way this will go for you

If they don't find in your favour, do as Merc says - connect 240v across the pump so it shorts, open another case saying you tried to fit it and the pump itself doesn't work anyway, so that way you still get your money back :D

That's the reason I tried to approach him first, I know what paypal are like and I didn't want him to think I was pulling a fast one. So much for that though

At any rate I opened an official complaint and he suddenly turned very polite and offered a refund on receipt of the pump back to him. It's with APC as we speak!

Hopefully all will end well :)

only garage can install car parts therefore it will go in sellers favour if he ask for prove who instal that pump, as buyer is not certified mechanic case will be closed in favour of seller

This isn't a warranty claim so the fact he's not a mechanic doesn't matter
