Interior looks amazing. Hope it turns out to be a saver - it'll be great.

Bring the weirdness.

My thoughts exactly. Plus that must have one of the longest rear badges ever

Absolutely bullet proof, never known one that's had to be re-built, burnt oil, knocked, needed a new Turbo or box, ever!
My dad did put a new engine in one of the other GTi Turbo's that's now mine, but that's because it had been abused by a previous owner soooo incredibly badly nothing could have survived (hole in sump with a patch superglued over it should give some idea of the sort of knob-head abuse it had suffered!  )

The only weak CX engine is the Diesel Turbo 2, where a (large!) batch of the blocks went porous because of jobby steel. The various Citroen model engined CX's are all push rods with chain driven cam so proper sturdy stuff. There were also 2 joint Renault/Citroen engines that were OHC, but they were also strong as an ox.

Fast? They go pretty well. It's a heavy car though, so it's no hot hatch. 8 seconds 0-60. Absolute mountain of torque though, so it's completely effortless acceleration when you want to overtake... Bit like a turbo Saab in that respect?

Interesting video I've just stumbled across comparing the CX with its rivals in suspension comfort and safety...

Interesting! That Fiat was hilarious on the bumpy road. Citroen is obviously the thing for braking when you're half on the grass.

It fecks me off that no one seems to do this sort of proper testing these days (or am I missing it?).

These CX things are lovely. Sadly you've also just reminded me that I'd give less favoured body parts for a nice 190 2.3-16v too :?

Or if you're a real geek and want to waste nearly 15 minutes of your life  I've stumbled across the full version of that film too. German Top Gear from the 80's, I think  No comedy porn star moustache or tight leather trousers in sight though :?

It's the Diesel Turbo 2 in this test (what my Safari is). You can see what I mean about the acceleration in the full version.
I don't speak German, but I think it sums up with a German bloke saying the CX is better than the Italian and 2 German competitors in the test

(Actually, some of the cinematography in this film is really surprisingly good for such an old car test programme!)
