I've also mentioned that I have a bonnet and bootlid available... It's rather as if something has got lost in translation though!
There's two very similar threads going on this, Iain! ...like an echo ..echo ...echo

Pretty sure I remember reading somewhere they're not just a straight swap? the insert have different mounting points or something?

Sorry to burst your bubble guys but the inserts can be swapped around. Its the number plate lights that need changing and cutting into the boot. ;)

Ok, photo's...

One of these is a JDM bootlid and one is a UKDM.
Can you spot the difference?
Image

(Yes, one's green, one's silver, one says 2.3, one says vtec, one has a lock barrel fitted the other has had it removed, one has some plate brackets and various number plate sticky bits while the other has none etc. etc.) ;)

So the 2.3 and vtec stickers actually give it away... But you get the point - they are exactly the same pressing.
If they weren't there, I wonder how many of you would spot the only difference, which is that you either have holes drilled on the inner pair, or outer pair of four recesses.

So to swap the JDM/UKDM plate insert from one to another, you just drill 4 holes in the recesses that are already there et voila.

Plates are a dealer fit item.

Ok. Go get them back out and take a picture of the soffit of the recess (the top bit). The JDM should have two cut outs for the number plate lights that sit in the bootlid. The UKDM boot won't have these as the lights sit in the plastic insert.

The rest as you say fits apart from having to drill the new holes as you say.

Interesting - you are of course correct!
I guess I hadn't spotted that because when I did mine, I'd taken a jdm bootlid and fitted a ukdm plate recess (which works because having extra holes you don't use, wouldn't be a problem  )

When I took those photos, I did try fitting the jdm insert to the ukdm bootlid and it went in fine (fixing holes aside, which I unclipped so I could push it home) which would also work of course, but there wouldn't be any lights - I obviously didn't go as trying to swap them over because it was just a quick trial :)

I'm surprised they didn't just go with the jdm bootlid (ie with light holes) as the universal design, because that would have been simpler/cheaper for the assembly line, but hey-ho!
