I use Shell Helix 10/40, which is also what my local dealership uses. Less than £20 for 5l too.

 sounds a bit interesting/pants? The one odd spring particularly, if that wasn't advised and assuming they knew...

Any good 10w-40 semi synthetic will do nicely in that engine.

I have used mobile1 0w40 fully syn before and castrol 10w40 part syn which was ok but I would recommend shell 5w40 fully synthetic oil. £30 from euro car parts and is great quality oil in my opinion. If its good enough for ferrari then im sure its god enough for our engines. ;)

Shell helix oils are indeed excellent.

Ever since 2001, I've stuck with fully synthetic Mobil 1 oils: 0w40 (New Life), 15w50, 10w60 (Extended Life) and Mobil Super 3000 X1 5W-40. However, during my last oil change last month, I've now switched to Shell Helix Ultra 5w40. Much cheaper from Euro Car Parts. And as @crigal.bb6 has said - If it's good enough for Ferrari, I'm sure it's good enough for our 2.2 litre 4 cylinder engines.
