However, during my last oil change last month, I've now switched to Shell Helix Ultra 5w40. Much cheaper from Euro Car Parts. And as @crigal.bb6 has said - If it's good enough for Ferrari, I'm sure it's good enough for our 2.2 litre 4 cylinder engines.
so generally ppl say 5w 40 fully synth as im used to nissans and using 10w 40 part synth??

Unless they were a bugger to fit so he put one one (to replace the most damaged) and thought "Ah, Screw this".

Thats the only explanation really? Even if the previous owner had no idea there was a different spring on the car, surely he would have noticed that there was a different spring in the box?

I've always used Castrol 10w40 Magnetec Semi. Anything else I've tried made the top end sound a bit rattly.

One odd spring now thats just plain crazy :? i did all 4 on my 4G recently and "it was a pain" but not hard in comparison to some i've worked on, the rears were the more difficult I have to say.

I too had crusty drop link rubbers, all 4 have now been changed, much better handling now  plus i'm in the process of changing the track rod ends on the front as they are well fubared, plus a genuine Honda steering rack boot as i have a split one... should be here in a couple of days :D
