To clarify - that's In Car Entertainment - not frozen water

Y-reg CRV head unit question

Post by wurlycorner » Tue Sep 16, 2014 5:12 pm

@thebusofwoe(or anyone else who might know)

I have an OEM CD/radio head unit from a Y reg CR-V (that's what it says it's from, anyway). I want to put it in my 3rd gen.

On the back there are 2 connectors. I have all the wiring for the main connector, so everything works on it but... I'm intrigued by the second connector and the fact that on the front of the unit, it has an 'Aux/CD' button.
Did Y-reg CR-V's come with an aux socket?
What does it look like/where is it and does this wire into the second connector on the back of the radio?

I can take pics of what I have if it helps of course, but as it's mainly what I don't have that I'm actually asking about, I don't think it will necessarily help much

Jason might be the man to speak to as his crv is roughly that age but I don't know if he's on the forum.

Well the only thing I know is that a y reg crv headunit is a direct plug and play fit to the 4th gen. I have a old crv tape headunit in my lude. Plugged right in and the electric ariel even worked. If the connectors are the same as the 4th gen then I don't see why it wont fit.

Sorry, just got what your asking. It would be for a external multi changer I think.

The amusing thing is, I took it out of the 4th gen breaker that I have and... It has no fewer than 4 different connector blocks in a string between the original car wiring loom and the plug on the back of the head unit

Anyway, ta, but that wasn't what I was after...
I know it'll fit and I can get it to work - I'm just intrigued to know if there's an aux port somewhere on the CR-V that I can go and take off one in a scrapyard, complete with oem wiring loom from the aux port to the back of the head unit, that would be a simple add-on to the back of this unit.

EDIT:
Lol yes posts crossed and you get where I'm coming from now :D
Autochanger is one of my suspicions, yes. I'm just confused/intrigued by the fact the button says "Aux/CD", making me think it might have come with a 3.5mm jack aux port option?

Ah yea I get what you mean now. No I am pretty sure it just means auxiliary system, such as a multi changer. I don't know of any that age with a aux port, put it that way :)

That's the same unit as in my '01 Accord by the looks of it. You can plug an xcarlink into it for IPod compatibility.

And yeah by default 'Aux' was an optional CD changer in the boot. Probably could get and MD changer if you were in Japan also but not 100% on that.
