Thanks for that I will take it off and have a look at the gaskets and clean the mesh filters and see if this stops the cel. Been out today though and the light hasn't come on once.

I managed to get another solenoid, it was ok yesterday but today the light came back on, again after about 40 mins of driving.
The solenoid cover looks like it has got really hot as there are marks around it, a bit like the old one i took off?
i will put some pics up later.
Not really sure what to look at next?

That's a lot of :vtec: action to get the solenoid hot

If this were mine, I would splice a temporary wire into the green 12v feed that goes to it, then use that wire to feed to a bulb in the cabin, next time you have no vtec, it will let you know if it's the solenoid or the wiring.

I tried this method today but as the cel came on the bulb did not light up does this mean its a fault with the wiring somewhere?

Did you try to vtec? What your looking for is if the bulb lights up when trying to vtec.

I believe that code comes on if the ecu cannot send the solenoid feed to ground, so either the wiring is faulty, the solenoid is faulty or the solenoid has a poor earth.

Given the solenoid has been swapped, it's most likely the wiring.

You could always run a fresh wire from the ECU to the solenoid and run it around for a few weeks, if everythong is ok, then it's definitely an intermittent wiring fault.

Yes once the light cel came on I turned the ignition off a few times then the cel went off. I then tried vtec but the bulb did not light up either.
Where on the ecu would I wire a it directly to the solenoid?

In that case either the wiring is faulty or the ECU is not sending the signal.

Looks like number 4 on connector A here............
