Bruce thinks that when the distributor blew it may have knocked everything out of sync and caused a very small crack then - hence the tapping, which started after we replaced it, and it's probably sheer luck that it's lasted so long since then as it easily does a few hundred miles a week.

MAY have sourced a replacement though from Holland but I won't get it til the end of the month if I go with it. Got a lot of thinking to do now... It'd be great to just have something economical but I just hate the feeling of being driven rather than driving. I detest power steering too, the non-feeling you get going round a corner, to me power steering usually just feels like serious understeer and freaks me out

So that's how it looked when you dropped the sump? One of the big ends gone walkies?

Has it scored the crank journal or bore?

If not, could you not just get a replacement con rod and slap that in?

Ok so... Bruce is taking me to look at a new car today that he wants to buy me. I'm not sure how I feel about it because it's really my responsibility to deal with... I always complain that he never gets me gifts (I was given a note one christmas a few years back that was an IOU for coilovers but I'm still waiting!) but when he now wants to get me something I kind of feel guilty and like I don't deserve it  but we'll see what happens eh.

If it goes ahead, then the plan B with the spareodeck is pretty interesting... Well a good friend has a very cheap SR20DE spare... And the spareo may end up going sideways in a few years time when other projects are out of the way
