Can someone tell me:

1. What are my stock speaker sizes?
2. How do i replace them (before i break the speaker covers or something)?

Thanks all!

17cm fit front and rear, only place to cut is behind the white plastic baskets in the doors. It's a pretty straight forward job they will rattle though unless you strengthen the door cards with sound mat. I'm almost certain the standard size is 10cm mounted on adapters.

I don't know the exact measurements for the rear, but a spare front measures up thus: Speaker cone 10cm, overall O/D 12 cm, fixing points, centre to centre 12 cm. I think if you go to a I.C.E shop, the thing to quote may be the cone size, 10 cm, all other dimensions may be a standard. I believe rears are identical, but would need to check .

P.S. I've had my rears replaced once by an outlet, and the new ones were a direct retro fit, with no adaptations necessary.

If you got for complete replacement rear speaker units, I'd love to have the original grilles/baskets please :-)

Cheers guys

Wurley - sorry pal, I like to keep my car original as I can

Prelude91 - oh, have u got pics of original?

I did search on forum for speaker sizes - but maybe I didnt search hard enough :-(

Did find a thread with replacing with front/back 17cm - but not enough detail on there.

Peeking thru the front speakers they do look small :-(

Strange :-(
My other car is a CRX - front is 17cm, back is 13cm.
I would have thought the BIGGER Prelude have bigger stock speakers :-( :-( :-(

No, wayne, I've looked at my car, the mesh size of the 2 pics you've posted are different, the tighter weave mesh as per pic. 1 is standard, the second 'cheesegrater' grille is not O.E. If I recall, my replacement rears were about 70 quid fitted, as the originals were a bit squeaky. I have a front out, at the mo. as I needed to remove the door card to waxoyl the inner door seams, I think a slug., or something has got access to the speaker cone, as the complete outside edge was 'eaten' away, no wonder it was so 'rattly' have still to buy a replacement pair, but am confident, as per rears, that a standard footprint size will be available to save having to drill extra holes in the door cards.
