Ta for that Iain. As tomorrow is yet another public holiday, I will be looking at the washer problem myself fully armed with all your valuable information.
I'll let you know the outcome.
Ha ha ha, too bloody many. It's weird but if the Indians have a holiday, the Moslems have to have one straight after, then the Chinese have to have one and on and on and on. Two years ago, we had a bloody public holiday because the Malaysian national football team won the Asian Cup! Oh yeah, the Asian work ethic is alive and kicking out here buddy.
BTW - just totted it up: this year we have 19 days of public holidays (not including any more football triumphs...)

What a fabulous day. By a stroke of luck the guy who helped me with the brakes last Monday was open today and not too busy. I popped down and laid all my woes on the line and trooper that he is, fixed the bloody lot. 1: Brakes. He swapped the pads as directed. The inner is now the outer and the outer is now the inner. Shims were replaced as original position.
Like you said Iain, the brakes feel a little wonky so I'm taking it easy, however it is most interesting that the disc has begun to get clean even though the drive home was quite short. Perhaps it is working. I'll keep you posted.
This however was the find of the day. This pipe was disconnected and flapping round. As you can see, the end of it was split and that's what caused it to come away. Well the difference to the idle was immense. Suddenly so smooth and back down to around 750/800rpm (ish) rather than the horrible 1000rpm it was. Fan-bloody-tastic!
Jason chopped off the broken bit and pushed it back into the intake pipe where it should have been, I cannot tell you how over the moon I am about it.
Fitted back with tremendous results for the idle issue.
2: Washers. As you can see, this crimped pipe was the problem. It was squashed against the alarm horn thing and of course, jamming the whole works.
Here's the horn thing after Jason moved it away from its previous position.
And here's the most lovely sight I've had today.
3: Brake lamp warning. Simple innit. The bulbs were as dim as me so Jason put in two new bulbs. Result: No brake warning light.
Driver's side bulb being changed
Passenger's side replacement.
A massive thank you to everyone, I know you're all rolling your eyes at my lack of fundamental mechanical knowledge but armed with your information I have been able to get work done (while I watched) that has cured most of my problems. The best one being the broken hose thing.
I tell you, I have the love back today and if only I can get the mounts sorted (more on that next week) and the shock knock dealt with then perhaps I can go back to enjoying her. Once those two things are done then it's respray time to get her back to her loveliest best. Once again gents - thanks for sticking with me. I am utterly in your debt.
and just think, @wurlycorner is, as we speak, beavering away in his cavernous workshop preparing my probe override wire thing. Blimey, it's like Christmas already!
Right that's it. We're skimming the discs and sanding down the pads tomorrow. The pad swap made no difference so this is plan B before I buy new discs from Blighty.
