My Current Vtec BB1

Post by hondaman » Sun Aug 17, 2014 5:48 pm

Bought this BB1 a couple of months ago as a winter runaround and haven't stopped driving it since, subsiquently i've decided to restore it to former glory, and in an effort to do this have spent as much replacing worn out suspension parts as the car cost me :?

Car came with pretty extensive service history from new last owner, who was the cars 2nd owner who bought the car in 2001 and covered no more than 2,000 miles between MOT's, car currently has 51,000 of which i've done the last 1000 in the last 2-3 months, cambelt and clutch was replaced about 3 years ago, new exhaust, a fair bit of body work has been done, but they seem to have hit things since that was done, and the poor thing has some battle scares to the nearside door and rear arch, drivers door and front and rear bumpers have been wacked in a several places

Plus there doesn't seem to be too much tin worm at least not as i've found yet, just a little on nearside rear arch and on leading edge of sunroof underneath, which needs looking at properly.

upgrades include so far:

Tein S.Tech springs on KYB Excell-G Dampers
New Front and Rear Drop Links

To do:
Full Set of ES Poly bushes
Sort the 1 bent and scabby original 5 spokes i bought for £50 (not fitted in this pic)
Get the bodywork sorted at some point
sort the rusty power steering cooler

So heres a picture of her best side :D doesn't look to bad in the shot does she

Well its been a while, so a bit of an update.

Bought, painted, (StrongFlex) poly bushed and fitted a 2WS rear subframe with some help from a 2 post ramp owning friend, not an easy job by far and i was going to attempt this conversion on my own on axle stands outside my house :? glad i didn't in the end it was a pig and really needed 2 people to do it.

So now i have to remove the wiring and 4WS ECU at some point, as the wires are insulated and just cable tied to the rear sub at the moment, plus the rear abs wires are cable tied round the lower arms as the 2WS sub came from a non-abs car by the look of it, so i'll probably need to drill and tap the arms at some point so its done properly, which is probably a job for the new year now.

With the 2WS fitted the car is definetly more stable round bends and the rear feels more planted, in fact the whole car just feels better, so result me thinks, plus that damned 4ws problem what ever was causing the light to come on all the time is no more. :D

I've also got some StrongFlex front lower arm poly bushes on route, as the original ones are starting to split now, not so bad really after 18 years and 53k i feel.

So more to do..
