It's not final welding. It's initial welds to get it all mocked up, then grind it back and get a stronger weld on there.

Built and On The Road!!
OK, yea, it's been a while since I updated this. The original swingarm plans went out the window and I redesigned the whole thing.
So in the last couple of weeks, she's now on the road, sailed through her MOT, and weighs in at a featherweight 260kg (trikes have to be weighed for DVLA updating)

Then with the new wheels on, sissy bar off, arches fitted up

Removed the side pods (air filter on one side, and vacuum advance ignition system which is useless on the other), fitted an air filter (with sock as it was sucking in too much air). The air filter is only temporary as I'm waiting on a single carb conversion intake manifold which will then run a smaller air filter on it

Also got a nice American style pressed metal number plate too for her

I got bored today, so decided to remove the foot shifter, and build a suicide shifter with clutch assembly out of an old handlebar. I like the set up, so I'm going to make a proper bar for it shaped to spec, rather than the old handlebars as they're not exactly great shape (I keep hitting my leg with it when I upshift)

looks good buddy how does the suicide shifter do with an mot seeing as you have to have the switches on the bars so you don't take your hands off to operate them?

Older Harley's and Indian's had suicide shifters as well. Hell some Indian's had a left hand throttle, foot clutch and suicide shifter! Talk about awkward to ride

yeah but they came out the factory like that
fitting one to a modern bike might create an issue I know I have to rewire my bike to move the switches to the bars because of that

Re: Virago 750 trike - Kaede
Merc, the laws are a bit different on trikes. As we have stabilisers, it's a lot safer for trikers to take on hand off the bars than it is if you only have 2 wheels. Effectively it's no different to taking a hand off the wheel to shift gears in a car.
Cheers Wurly
Really pleased with how she's looking now

New Suicide Shifter
I've built a proper suicide shifter now, so none of this old handlebar made to work stuff! I even painted most of it too!!!!!!
