Sometimes don't start...

Post by Topper80 » Tue Nov 11, 2014 11:03 am

Hi,

Sometimes my car don't start.
I Know that i'ts not spark plugs or spark plug wires because they are new.
When I turn the key into the first position, the yellow "engine light" turns off and at the same time I ear a "click" (a relay?), I know it will start.
When I don't ear the "click" the car just don't start at all...
What could it be? Fuel pump? Or something else?

Does this happen when the engine is cold, hot or all the time? Do you hear the fuel pump prime?

Before you go ripping your car apart...

This will tell us if it is likely the main relay or not.

under the dashboard, generally around the steering column area...you'll probably have to jam your hand up there to find it, but it is there.

it looks exactly the same as the civic one, except the civic one is found to the left of the glove box.

Does the car have an immobiliser fitted?
If so, add that to the list of possibles, along with the ignition switch. But people do seem to favour the main relay on 4th gens as being the culprit for these antics.

Honestley I don't know if it have an immobiliser.

I hope that will be just the relay! I'll check it out.
