yeh saw that cheers Wurly :) but its very vague on how to remove it :? says "remove the ring nut (ok... does it unscrew or what?), and separate the cigarette lighter socket from the thermal protector"....that's it except for vaguely how to put some bits back together.

it's very very awkward go get to and get any kind of socket behind it or anything to help screw it... if any section unscrews :troll:

lol! I have 4ws so that would be pointless  it's to put in a switch in it's place with a panel over the top. ill update my Profile with the plans asap and all will be revealed ;)
If I were you I'd keep the cig socket (or at least relocate it) as it is good for powering things like tyre pumps etc... Electric tyre pumps are great at the track when you realise your pressures are down ;)

Ok, fair enough Drax.
Not had it apart myself so can't help I'm afraid, other than to calm your frayed ends on this with encouragement that there are people that have a far greater struggle with this particular item than you are...

got to looking at this again today and bennyboy is right - the bottom of the metal housing unscrews allowing the inner lighter assembly to slide forward - you can then grab the plastic connection at the base and pull the cigarette lighter out.
sounds easy but i took it apart when it was off the car - would be tricky to do in situ but heres a few pics to help explain :)

this allows whole unit to pull forward and the lighter section unplugs from the back.

replacing should just be the reverse :geek:
