Oil Weep - a problem?

Post by simonc » Sun Feb 08, 2015 4:12 am

Hi all and sorry I've been off the air but been busy catching up after Christmas as well as playing mien-host to friends and relatives out here visiting.
Last week I noticed what I thought was accumulated dirt just below the rocker cover. Like a fool, I wiped it off so didn't have the proof to send you guys a picture.
However, I've left it a week and this morning I took this photo to try and help get a diagnosis from you.
It feels like oil and although there's not a 'stream' of it coming out, it must mean something that oil is present.
Is this something that needs attention pronto or is it 'normal'?
What is it and what should I do to remedy it?
Your direction and help would of course be most welcome. Thanks folks. ;)
Here's the offending article, it just seems to be on this side.

Should have added that the oil level seems fine. No dramatic loss when I checked this morning.

Yep, that will be from the rocker cover gasket. It's common for them to weep from the arcs over the camshafts at that end. Nothing to worry about, just very annoying.
only way to stop it is to take the cam shaft off, replace the gasket and make sure all the corners are adequately sealed with a gasket sealant.

Thanks gents. So, it's off with the cover, get Jason to check the ends as you said Iain and stuck down with some quality (i.e, non-local) sealant.
Is it a big job? Half a day or will it be off the road for more than that?
Ta as ever for your advice. :)

Thanks young man. I'll take it in next week then and get it sorted.
Hope you're all well in Englandlandshire ;) regards, Simon.

Apologies but thought I'd put this up. Self-indulgent I agree but I hope you like the way she's looking. :)
