exhaust issues

Post by chris167 » Mon Mar 16, 2015 7:39 pm

Ive had my car up in the air over the weekend to have a look at the leaking exhaust. It seems there is two bolts missing that holds up the dc sports down pipe to the back of the engine, can anyone advise me on what size bolts I need. It looks to be sitting about 2 inches away and I think the stress has opened up the flexi pipe so I'm looking to replace that as well. Are these 2.5"? Does anyone know off hand what length I would need. I have looked on the dc sports site but I doesn't mention anything.

There should be a small plate that attaches the block to the exhaust.

From memory, the nuts and bolts are m10 x 1.25 thread.

I think they are 12 or 14mm x 1.25 thread pitch as I remember from last time I changed my downpipe

30mm might be too long, I'd go with 25mm just to be sure, that's more than enough thread to keep it all in place.

IMO it is not essential that the bracket is attached. On both of the aftermarket exhausts I have had (on two different cars) neither has had the bracket attached. On my current Fujitsubo manifold and 3" exhaust there isn't even a bracket to bolt up.

Fuji's have a swivel joint instead of an oem style flexi section though?

IME without that bracket in place, the standard style flexi sits with one side permanently in compression and the other in tension carrying too much weight, which they don't like long-term, so it does cause them to fail.
Swivel joints don't seem to mind.

The blacker does seem to be hanging pretty low so I'm hoping it will relieve some stress as I'm gonna have to wait a few weeks to get a new flexi pipe sorted
