Would be worth checking the compression. That kind of carbon deposits inside the head can be the result of combustion gas blowing by worn piston rings.
Not something that H22's are known for, but if any engine has had long stints between oil changes, the bores and rings will wear...

That sounds nice and healthy. The compression result doest matter that much but it is important that the compression is roughly equal across all cylinders. For comparison I got around 175 psi across the board on the engine I just fooked. That may seem low but differences in engines and compression testers will give differing results.
