It's been at the garage for two weeks now. They can't work out what's wrong with it. I don't know what to do

thats not much fun is it
what did the garage say about the suggestions on the distributor and ignition key?
might also be worth asking them about the main relay (an low cost and easy part to swap on 4th gen-dont know much about 5th gens)

bit odd/confusing with the new cat melting as well :?

I've mentioned all of those things but he still can't find what's wrong. He's now saying he may have to take it to the local honda dealer. Apparently the diagnostic thingy isn't giving any error code either. He's had it running fine for like an hour at a time no problem but when he restarts it it plays up after a few minutes.

sounds like its off to Honda unless someone can get you a ignition switch to try like mercutio has suggested...
maybe post up an add in the wanted section?

here is one on ebay for 5th gen - check with another 5th genner that its the right part ;)

I'm worried what Honda will charge! Is it worth ordering this switch to try anyway?

 How does a faulty ignition switch cause the cat to melt? Mixture problem?
