I see you are now selling the arches, so does this mean the car will soon be sold/scrapped?vanzep wrote:I was at a body shop today and spoke to them about replacing the arches...
I have replacement rear quarter panels here ready to fit but they said it would be about £500 per side based on 12 hours labour each and to get the whole car fixed up and resprayed would be at least £3000

That's the thing with these cars, not many people will be able to justify spending 3 times what the car is worth to sort out the rust. When the time comes with mine I will have the same decision to make and it will really depend on what my financial situation is like at the time. With a young child and a mortgage to pay the car is not top priority, and let's face it the reason most of us are driving Preludes is because we wanted performance motoring, but on a budget.

Depends where you go over here so id imagine its the same over there
My advice is find a lesser known body repair shop, if you go to the big ones its like going to a dealership for a service lol
Both of the ones i mentioned above werent well known but their work was same level

yeah maybe a bit of a knee jerk reaction selling the panels but there are other areas that need sorted as well. The underside of the car is solid and ive put a lot into keeping it running for the last 15 years.
i think it will still pass a good few more mots before failing due to rust as the only structural issue will be with bubbling around the A pillar although this hasnt broken through the paint just yet.
plenty for me to think about as im pretty sure i wont want to buy a replacement lude
i might call on a few other bodyshops and see what they say

ive been to another bodyshop and cut the work back to rear quarters, roof ,A pillars, bootlid and back bumper with a blend in on the doors. Repair panels only to be used if needed. Rust addressed on rear arches and A pillars and dents to be taken out the roof which will mean front windscreen out. Said he would price it up and let me know.
Fingers crossed
Thanks for all the input - it helps make a rational decision
