Should I sell the lude?

The lude has been a third car since January and SORN for a while. Now I have a company car and the Cayman for fun I'm struggling to see a time when I'll ever justify putting the lude on the road and have time to drive it.

Should I sell it and let someone else enjoy it?

Is it a problem keeping it, space wise? Or no worries on that front? If no problem hanging on to it, you may as well, never know what the future holds and it won't be losing any value...

I say sell it, if it's not being used the car will start rusting away, seized brakes, flat battery, before you know it a year has passed and you haven't used it. Best to sell it while it's in good condition.

It is true tho you can't lose much money on it as there not worth bugger all anyway, the only ones that will increase in value will be mint condition and completly standard, low miles and full service history. Anything else is just an ordinary lude :(

I was thinking it's garaged, hence shouldn't go rusty (I might well be jumping to wrong assumption though)

It's a facelift UKDM vtec, completely standard IIRC (so quite a rare beast) and is also in a rare colour, so as you say pete, it's a very good candidate for being one that would actually appreciate/be considered as a classic in future. That was in my thinking, I just didn't bother putting it into words :lol:

If it's sold now, just as likely to be chavved up or stripped out...

Honestly I'd probably sell it. Unique though 'ludes are, when not using the company car I suspect I'd be driving the Cayman too, and the lude would degrade and become a liability.

I think there are a certain breed - in particular with both the skills and motivation - who can practice genuine auto-polygamy (Wurly and JJ the obvious candidates) but for many of us the benefits are eroded by the costs (Space, Financial, even guilt) over time.

If you decide to treat the maintenance or improvement of your 4th as a hobby, that's different (Although you might periodically re-assess whether this is happening).

That said, if it were me, I'd probably take the cash option over the company car, which (unless your mileage is truly stratospheric) will probably outweigh the extra depreciation etc. on the porker, and use that all the time, but that comment probably just illustrates how little I know of your situation.

Whatever, you can always come on here for a natter anyway :)

Arguments for and against on both sides are right but end of the day its that rare itll soon become a collector item

Also was listed on top 10 handling cars on a budget list somewhere ... tells you alot

Thanks for all the replies.
It's not costing me anything and space isn't an issue. It's in a car port so generally quite well protected from the weather.

I do far too many miles for the Cayman to be a daily to the point where the cash alternative wasn't available as I'm a high mileage driver. Got an A3 s-line sport back turning up in a few weeks.

It's the time really at the moment. I've got a big project of a house to contend with plus work so if I do get free time other things are queued up. One of the reasons I kept the lude was that I thought I wouldn't be able to do any jobs on the Cayman. But two weeks ago the gear shift cable snapped and I've done that myself.

So hard to know what to do, yes it isn't worth enough for the money to be a reason to sell it and maybe when my house is finished I'll want something to restore (rear arches need sorting). I suppose I just can't see myself driving two extra cars enough to warrant the insurance and tax etc. but then the lude could be a summer only treat if I did get it in tip top condition.
