Difference between White Diamond Pearl & Premium White Pearl

Post by wurlycorner » Tue Jul 21, 2015 8:16 am

As above, what is the difference between these two 5g colours? (paint code and name aside, obv  )

Base colour?
Pearl coat? (fleck colour?)

None of the above?

Anyone got any pics of the difference?

I know Ratty's is Diamond White (though I've never seen the car, cause it never gets out!)
What colour is Hond-R's k-swapped Type-S? ('cause I saw that at the Pod)

White Diamond Pearl are the 96-98 Preludes.
premium White Pearl replaced it in 98 and carried on until the CRZ. Platinum White Pearl was also on other Honda. The best pearl white imo.
Orchard White Pearl replaced premium White.

All are 3 stage pearls as in Base, pearl and clear coat.

Basically as a rough guide as different varients have different amounts.
All use a base white which will maybe be a tad bit redder or yellower, bluer or whiter.

But the important pearl layer is roughly.

- White Diamond is 5% medium pearl blue & 10% medium pearl white.

- Premium white pearl is 5% medium pearl white

- Platinum White Pearl is 8% Fine Pearl white & 10% medium pearl white. Very nice heavy pearl effect.

- Orchard White Pearl is 1% medium pearl blue 1% crystal silver pearl & 9% medium pearl white.

My car is a custom double concentration of white diamond pearl. So more pearly.

Awesome info 8-)
Can I assume that cost would be relative to number of different pearls? (do they go in as separate coats or is that one mixed with the other and then applied?)

Separate coats. Sometime they are all in one but the effect isn't the same.

So cost (low to high) would go something like:
- Premium White Pearl
- Diamond or Platinum White Pearl
- Orchard White Pearl

Cost. There all the same. Depends on how much paint you use.

I was thinking extra each extra pearl coat is extra paint and extra labour? Hence directly related to cost increase.

Doing any 3 stage pearl costs more than standard 2 stage paints because of the extra time spent putting on more layers.

And yes pearl tints, metallics, xirallics and always more expensive than solids tints.

A standard bumper scuff i might charge £132-144 inc vat but for a 3 stage pearl i charge £156-168 inc vat. Usually takes an extra 4-5mins to apply the pearl but yes its more paint costs.
