5th gen Looking for new engine mounts and lowerwishbonemount

Post by prelerepairman » Fri Oct 02, 2015 11:42 pm

Sorry if this is the wrong section but I couldn't see how to post elsewhere.
My recently purchased 1999 2.2Vtec is creaking on gently moving forward and back...and stopping.
I figure it's engine mounts or lower front(nearside) wishbone bush (the big one). I've just refitted the front springs which previous owner had botched. They're now the correct way up (with the writing the right way up) but that didn't do the job
Seems nuts to replace with second hand older ones yet the car will only do another 3 years or so...I hope, so I'm wondering where I might get them without going to Honda dealer...our Edinburgh one doesn't seem to do parts anymore anyway.....?
Thanks for reading this.....All suggestions welcome.
Will post pics and profile when the website allows.
(I have a shed full of 4th Gen 2.0i parts if anyone interested)

Moved to wanted section :)

OEM suspension mounts, if you can get them from Honda, are horrendously expensive.
A cheaper solution would be to buy a replacement polybushes. Energy suspension (or I think powerflex do some, too) make these. It's possible to buy full kits or smaller quantities.
There are instructions showing parts numbers for the individual energy suspension mounts in the wiki section if the forum, or as a sticky in the suspension section of the forum, IIRC...
You can buy the energy suspension bushes from several suppliers, one being funkypower.co.uk

If you don't want polybush versions, I think Hardrace do some replacement rubber bushes, but think you might have to order them from the states, not sure there is a UK retailer?

For the front and rear engine mount (which you're correct, do have a habit of going) the cheapest solution is polybush inserts, which you push into the existing mount, by hand. Again, Energy Suspension make these and available through e.g. funkypower. Some photos in my black bb1 profile thread, fyi.
Alternatively, a DIY method is to fill the original mounts with polyurethane sealant. Several have done that method.

It is possible to get oem spec replacement mounts from an ordinary motor factors - I have done it myself - but very few seem to be able to find them (just don't have catalogue access). If you speak to a specialist jap motor factors, or a very good independent, that may help (the big chains unlikely to be of use here, IME).

Alternatively there are other suppliers of after market updated mounts (hardrace, innovate etc) but you might need to order from the states and/or these will work out more expensive.

I'm sure others will be along with more suggestions on re-sellers for all the above, shortly...

I'll keep it short: Someone hadn't torqued the bolts on nearside engine mounting.....
To my astonishment all creaks and groans gone.
