4G Nearside Drive Shaft

Post by Jay88B » Tue Oct 13, 2015 2:53 pm

Hi Guys,

Recently developed an unusual knocking when turning right. After exhausting all avenues of looking for the source of the noise myself, I took it to the local garage. They test drove it and were just as stumped as me as to where the noise was coming from, after inspecting it themselves they found there to be excess play in the nearside drive shaft which in turn was creating the infernal knocking. They managed to source a shaft for me, and offering it up, was the correct length, however once fitted it did not sit correctly and the shaft itself would not turn.

Would anyone currently have in their stockpiles or know of where I can source the correct replacement drive shaft?

It's for the 4th Gen, 2.0i, SOHC.

Thanks guys

Jay

You dont need one from a 2.0 specifically. All 4th gens use the same drive shafts so it can be from a 2.0, 2.3 or the 2.2 VTEC ;)

Yes the auto has no half shalt. Just one long shaft from gearbox to outer CV joint.

I think you could get a 2.0 that did not have ABS (yours obviously does), all 2.3 and UK 2.2 VTEC have ABS.

ok thanks guys, that at least clears it up a little. I've replaced the c.v joint which seems to have reduced the movement and stopped the noise (don't know for how long)
Any ideas on a reliable source for the correct parts? Only ones I can find are in excess of £500 per sidefor what seems to be a uk supplier, or over £600 with import charges on top.
