I fear if I was on any social site other than the forums id end up in trouble

Social media != social networking. Forums are old school and a bit more personal than thumbing through someone's very carefully curated photo stream. I'd certainly consider forums part of the social superfamily but I would probably name a dozen other sites social media before forums. IMO anyway.

Also it would take 5 seconds to figure out what Instagram is. It is beyond me how someone can claim ignorance in a thread that has explained in a nutshell (http://www.ludegeneration.co.uk/post286923.html#p286923) what it is and also has an internet connection at their fingertips
