H22A1/A2/A3, cranking at 250rpm;
Nominal = 185psi, Minimum = 135psi, max variation = 28psi
Benthebratt - the 5th gen manual doesn't specify what engine the specs are for
but the numbers are exactly the same. So that would appear to be common for H22's...
Your figures are obviously higher than that Bludge - I would assume perhaps because cranking at a higher speed than the 250rpm specified in the manual??? (or gauge inaccurate)
Either way, cylinder 4 is way out of maximum variation spec.

Super Secret 1G (not really super secret!)
you can get bad compression because your valves are not set right but if it suddenly happens it's the head gasket.
Worn rings normally give a lover indication in all cylinders . Poor a few spoons of oil in the cylinder and do a test straight away. If it's better it's the rings. If not check the valve clearence .. If that doesn't help I'm guessing it's the head gasket .
By the way, you started on the drivers side? So you named the cylinder closest to your distributer 1 and the cylinder closest to the timing belt and camgears 4?? That's wrong...
Because it's normally cylinder 4 where the head gasket goes first. But your lowest compression is on cylinder 1 if it's a RHD.
Please let us know the correct cylinder numbers.

Yeah got them the wrong way round, so its cylinder 1 with the low compression.
