rhubarb vauxhall dealer

Post by wurlycorner » Mon Nov 30, 2015 7:58 pm

Today I got an unsolicited text message from my local Vauxhall dealer, saying:
somedogshitcardealer wrote:Hi, still own L*****P? At Quest we'll give you £2,000 for it against a New Vauxhall + 0% Finance over 5yrs + NIL Deposit. Reply 'YES' to find out more.
(I put the * in - it actually had the full reg on my ukdm 4g). To say I'm drokking hopping mad, is an understatement.

Leaving aside the general unsolicited contacting me, with never having given them permission to gather or use my number for marketing purposes... Beyond that, where the hell did they get that registration number to link it to my phone number?
Not from their own database, that's for sure - I have made parts enquiries for my Xantia with them before (they're supposed to be a Citroen dealer, but they know absolutely drokk all about them and have failed to ever even find a part number for me, let alone order something for me, hence why I now refuse to even to contact the kebabs for anything) but they aren't and never have been a Honda dealer, so I have never given them any possible link between that reg or my phone number.

I'll be going to town on them tomorrow.

That is jobby who wants a effing vauxhall anyway unless you like mobile bonfires. Scary stuff . Have you looked for motor insurance on the net? I would lay odds that a price comparison site has flogged your details if you have.

I'm surprised that you're surprised, if I'm honest. I'd love to say I told you so but I don't think I ever told you anything

Just cite some data protection clauses and make mention of their data controller and you'll be away.

Rather sinister Iain and how they've linked your phone is worrying.
On a related, albeit less worrying note, since I asked you guys about 'seat belt extenders' a few weeks back, every time I log onto facebook, Planet-F1.com, Daily Mail ( ) and Star Malaysia, (all 'Favourites' on my toolbar) I am ad-bombed by all and sundry that sell seat belt extenders. I wouldn't mind but I didn't even want seat belt extenders, I wanted the 'Butler' thing. And I'm not fat either.
How on earth have they done that?

Why is wurly's scathingly pejorative title  on the home page, but changes to rhubarb, when I'm in the 'Your posts' section?

That is probably due to your privacy settings in google. You need to log in to your Google account (if you use their search engine or have an android phone then, yes, I'm afraid you will have one) and turn off all the settings about how they use the data they harvest from you. You still see ads, but not ones that big brother has selected for you, based on what he knows about you...

Astonishing Iain. Thanks for that. I do use Google Chrome on my laptop and also on my phone. I'll have a look into this and try to put a stop to it.
Thank God they didn't record my search for Japanese schoolgirl panties... err, flights to Japan..
