So we rang them and they appointed us to another garage.. This time didn't have to pay the diagnostic charge (£72). 8-)

This garage was good, found the fault straight away but unfortunately those bits are not covered under warranty...

Oil filter housing, Engine oil, Oil filter flight switch and labour = £343.90. So we can pay the garage that much to do this..

I've been through a 6 month battle (and won) this year with a dodgy motor and know pretty much all the nuances, let's kick some ass.
The car was bought from a private dealer [Chiswell Cars LTD - £1500] on 8th August this year.. The reason we got it was it had 6 month warranty on it from Warranty Assist.

Just last month she paid £340 doing a full service and a wheel speed sensor put in (that also wasn't covered under warranty  )

drokk the warranty, the're not worth anything anyway.

The car sounds like a lemon, go and have a look at the sale of goods act for your rights (i.e. major fault within the first 6 months).

How was the sale funded (bank loan, cash, credit card, finance by dealer?).

Wtf? That's a LOT of money for something like that.

What's the breakdown of parts and labour?

Speak to the dealer and attempt to get them to refund all your repair costs, they might be reasonable.

If that fails, write the dealer a letter (send recorded delivery) stating that you are rejecting the car or requesting repair cost reimbursement under the sales of goods act/consumer rights act.
If you buy a new or used car from a dealer and experience problems with it, you have some statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

The Act states that the car must be “of a satisfactory quality”, “fit for purpose” and “as described”. (For a used car, “satisfactory quality” takes into account the car’s age and mileage.)

If the car you bought fails on any of these points within six months, you‘re entitled to have it repaired or replaced, or to get a partial or full refund.

The subjective element of any argument is the scale of the faults and what could be reasonably expected for the cars age and mileage. My case was auto gearbox failure on a 60k mile 7 year old car, which eventually I even proved was faulty at the point of sale. You'll have to weigh up the subjective elements.

If that gets you nowhere, get the ombudsman involved who will pick up take case and take it from there. They do not charge for their services.

My mate had an 08 plate zafira 1.6 in 5 months he used 5 litres of oil topping up. no visual signs of leaks didn't smoke (no vtec  ) he took it back to dealer they just give him his money back without questions. Feel sorry for the next poor sod that gets it.

Oil Filter Housing - Part £22 / Labour time = 1.5 hours / Labour cost = £78.75 / NET = £100.75 / VAT = £20.15 / Total = 120.90
Oil/Filter change - Part £62.10 / Labour time = 0.5 hours / Labour cost = £30 / NET = £92.10 / VAT = £18.42 / Total = 110.52
Oil Light Switch - Part £18.74 / Labour time = 1.5 hours / Labour cost = £90 / NET = £108.75 / VAT = £21.75 / Total = 130.49
Total - Net =£301.59 / VAT = £60.32 / Total = £361.91

I'd have thought that the 1.5 hours for the filter housing (whatever that is) would also include the time for the filter. Seemed to have doubled up there
