New member looking for some help with his 5th gen

Post by DAVE2ME » Tue Jan 19, 2016 2:35 am

Hi guys n girls (maybe girls as mine sometime drives mine)

Ive got a few problems and am at my wits end with problems on my 2 litre p reg.

On the first week i had it, i thought its hand brake was fine, until i parked it on a slight incline. She decided after she was nice and comfy for 15 minutes, but was bored and wanted to go for a wonder down the street. The neibour knocked on the door and pointed out the gap infront of the house, and asked if it was my prelude trying to mate with the rear of his ford transit. She has strange taste.....

Firstly has anyone else had problems with handbrakes which stall the car when pulling away and leaving on, but as soon as its on an incline, fail? although this has never happened again, because i always pull it stupidly high on any slope now.

Also I cant find a replacement for the rear hazard lens. The bumper although scratch a little, popped streight back out :)

There are a few other things, but for now this is good for a start :)

cheers guys and its nice to find others that have the same perverse taste in cars :)

That's why I always leave it in gear.
Sound like the rear calipers are sticking. Very common.
Get a slider rebuild kit, just a simple rubber boot and lots of ky jelly. Lube up. Slide it in.

Welcome to LG buddy :Hello:

Sounds like your handbrake needs adjusting. It shouldn't pull up stupidly high. It happened on most of my previous ludes eventually, but I could never be bothered to adjust the cables, so used to leave it in gear

Also, what do you mean by rear hazard lens :?: fog light :?:

Welcome to the forum.
Sorry to hear of your stray lude, pesky thing

As others have said, sounds like sticking rear brakes, which is very common, leading to very poor handbrake performance. It's very uncommon for ludes to try and run away though (not actually heard of it before... Had you 2 had cross words before parting that day? :sega: )
There are various posts up about how to rebuild the rear brakes (i've already posted up the info in someone else's thread just in the last week as it happens!) - it's a very cheap and relatively simple job tbh.
