New Member: Breathing new life into the Prelude

Post by norks27 » Tue Jan 19, 2016 9:56 am

Hi,

thought I'd post instead of just lurking on the forum.

I've had several Preludes, started with a 2.0 4th Gen, then a 2.2 4th Gen, still hooked on the Prelude I changed to a 2.2 5th Gen and then another 2.2 5th Gen, this time with the red top engine. I've had this Prelude for around, hmmm, maybe 13 or 14 years.

The car was reaching the point where either I invest and spend money to tidy it up or cut my losses and get rid. Given how good the car still felt I thought i'd spend the money.
It's still with the garage awaiting a few more bits to be done, (I'm no mechanic and not terribly technical so I just hand over the car for all the work).

Some of the work done:

wheelarch rust sorted
fresh underseal
stone chipped front bumper sorted
new roof strips
polish up the headlights
radiator
condenser
exhaust, (centre and back box)
front and rear brake pipes due to corrosion
brake pads and discs
frozen brake calliper changed
Kenwood double din head unit with reversing camera
change the alarm, (the old one only had one working keyfob and seemed to drain the battery)
Alpine subwoofer in the boot

I'll sort out the worn leather seats once I get the car back, seems like there are a few restoration services I can call upon to rejuvenate the seats, (although they aren't too bad, mainly the drivers seat).

The car only has 71k on the clock and the engine still feels strong and tight. I may have flirted with the idea of an S2000 at one point, but, to be honest I'm glad I'm keeping the Prelude going, so few on the road and, in my opinion, the shape of the 5th Gen has matured with age and stands out from the crowd, and as a car to drive it still puts a smile on my face, (granted my point of reference is limited having never really explored other cars).

I'll post a couple of pictures, I'll have more once the car is back with me.
All the work is with a trusted Honda garage in York. I've built up a level of trust with this dealer and whilst I may be paying a premium for the work I know it'll be done well.

Welcome.
Good stuff restoring it.

Spending money on a prelude is a good thing. Don't look at it as spending £3k on a £2k car. It's still a £26k car and still does what a modern 26k car does.

Thanks for the welcome.

The seats are OEM. I'm not sure, but, I think the leather option on Preludes was a dealer fit as they came over from Japan with standard cloth seats. I could be wrong??

Welcome. Personally I love that colour combo on a 5g.
Never seen those seats before - very very rare!
Looks in fantastic condition, well done for spending some money getting bits sorted, top marks! And well done for posting up :D great to hear from you.
Now, just keep it away from rivers round your way... :?
