Prelude BBS2K

Post by JEBB4 » Tue Feb 23, 2016 9:41 am

So as some may know I am ludeless, as a result the old noggin has really been running overtime about what I could do to one when I finally get my hands on one again..

One of the things have been thinking is how amazing the 4th gen chassis would be with the S2000 running gear..
Now I'm not a complete dullard and I know it would be a monumentally expensive project but it shouldn't really be that difficult with enough money and some engineering know how...

I have come across "The only RWD Prelude in the world"
http://www.superstreetonline.com/featur ... a-prelude/

And also this very erm rough 4g with a s2000 lump sort of in it :? On YouTube... But it's a very rough attempt

On whole I think it would be amazing but what does everyone else think, worth while or should I just save for a Porsche

Use the rx8 running gear. Rear axle is the same width as the prelude.

I think it would be worth while as project just to see if you can do it but I don't think it's an everyday car. IMO you'd have a better car if you threw all that cash at the H22 + brakes & suspension.

That RWD Lude must handle like a bag of crap, see how far inboard they have moved the rear shocks

Really, could be some useful bits on one of them then and there a damn site cheaper than s2k parts I'm sure..

It sure would and if done properly and to a high standard, it
could be a usable daily but as said would have to be
done very well..

Yeah that rear axle is just not right IMO, should be independent suspension with shafts etc..

Yeah I know with the money you would spend on doing it you could build an epic "normal" 4g but I love the idea of modernising the car, bringing it a little more up to date and making it what many people would expect from a sports coupe by it being RWD.. So many people I met who knew nothing about preludes would think that there rear drive just from the looks...

Obviously there would be no point unless you were stinking rich but I've got this crazy vision of a brightly painted Lude smothered in carbon fibre inside and out slightly resembling a modern day super coupe  (I think I watched 1 too many EVO car reviews when I was traveling) :? :)

the Rx8 even has a carbon fibre propshaft and the rear end come complete with subframe so easier to mount to the chassis bit like the Jag rear end

for me i was looking at this and decided that if i was going to do it i would have searched out an Alfa romeo 75 gearbox as it sits with the final drive at the rear so no bulky gearbox tunnel issues and the 2 litre tspark engine or the 24valve v6 engines are pretty good

but thats just me

I should hope so too, for a big capacity V engine with efficient engine management!
It's all relative though... 155lbft at 4000 rpm for the 12v (no higher output than the h22 just a bit lower down) and 194lbft at 4400 for the 24v aren't exactly earth shattering when you consider the 2.5L 8v 4cyl in my CX's put out 217lbft at 3250 and a modern PSA/Ford puny little 1.6L hdi diesel puts out 199lbft...

There's no doubt it is one of the sexiest looking engines ever though, for sure! :D
