gen 3 code 4 - crank angle sensor - HELP!

Hi,

Im getting a code 4, but struggling to find the crank sensor or buy a replacement.

Where are the sensors? Im doing the timing belt tomorrow, is it behind this? Anyone know where i can get a replacement?

Im no expert but god knows whats happened to my rotor..? Could be causing my error code 4. Anyone got one they want to sell?

That a pic of your distributor? (I'm not familiar with the innards of a 3rd gen distributor yet). Is it on a B20A7 or the carb version?
@nafemannathan is familiar with 3g distributors (A7's) I think...
@mercutio might have one available.

Ahhh... Hang on. Just looked at an A7 now (not worked on the engine of mine yet so a bit embarrassingly light on knowledge

)
Rear camshaft has distributor assembly and front camshaft has a separate sensor assembly... Looks like you have taken apart the front one?

These are the innards;

So I would concur that you are looking in the right area (can't see any actual sensor located around the crank of the engine, only these at the top)

Part numbers are (I haven't bothered spacing out the price etc. too much hassle! but part number/description should be near enough in columns

Looks like item 14 is meant to match with the crank TDC position and one of the sensors on the short loom near item 12, is the pickup for it? However item 12 is not available separately? (only as part of a whole new distributor?)

Cheers man thats great. Ive tried the link but cant match any of the parts. Just as well Mercutio is selling me his distributor

Will replace just the rotor and let you know if it solves error code. No idea how the rotor ended up like it is...

no the photo is of the dizzy and rotor arm the sensor your on about wurly is in the front cam sensor unit

Let me see if i get this...

the dizzy driven from the rear cam controls crank angle, the front cam drives the cyl sensor. Both crank angle sensor and cyl sensor have different fault codes 4 and 9. So for me with fault code 4, swapping the dizzy makes sense, or at least swapping the knared rotor!

Have you looked in the Honda 3g service manual to see what fault finding guide for code 4 says you should do?

Yeah, its a good service manual. It suggests a more scientific approach

but by swapping the rotor and if that doesnt work seapping the distributor I'll soon know what is/isnt the problem.
