Merlin wrote:TBH I dont think it is a fault with the installation, the shifter cable pretty much fit or they dont. It it was the clutch it would grind in all gears.

If it is the syncro, at a minimum you would need to replace the 5th gear syncro, maybe 4th as well plus the labour charge (£200-£300)
Let's hope its the routing or condition of the cables but if the box is being torn down then a full overhaul & upgrade would be the best option...as we know, its not the cheapest option, but the resulting box will be fresh as a daisy and ready for abuse :-D

Forgot to mention earlier I did another little test yesterday.

Parked up outside my house and put the car into 5th and had the handbrake up. I slowly let the clutch out and it still popped out of 5th and into neutral but did it slowly.

Any ideas?

Ranj

So today I decide to take the A45 to see Matt at Red R Performance rather than the M6 as I have no 5th gear.

Matt has checked the car over and needless to say 5th gear is broken.

@cutz - Matt will come along shortly and explain the situation better than I can. It seems like its either a selector fork or the 5th gear assembly.

@Vanzep - I may need to take you up on your offer for parts for the gearbox if that offer is still on the table mate. It will most likely be the 5th gear assembly or the fork or both.

Unfortunately, yes 5th gear is borked.

Definitely not engaging so most likely the sleeve or fork. Have another box here that we'll rebuild and drop in.

As soon as the box is apart we'll know what we need to proceed further...Hopefully will be the most cost effective route to fixing the problem.

Yeah lol.

Now I just need to sort out the parts to get it fixed. Life is not the same without 5 gears!!
