Why has it decided that I'm in Germany, all of a sudden?

What net connection are you using? Had this when using a satellite connection that returned to earth over there.

it is up to ISP.
google fetches your location basing on geolocation of your IP

Was at home on virginmedia but still doing it on wifi at work (not virginmedia)!

Bloody annoying...
I've even gone into the browser search settings and changed the default search address from google.com to google.co.uk but to no effect
