I forgot to mention in my orginal post - this car has a decent alarm and imobiliser fitted to comply with the required insurance requirements - I fitted a new alarm and imobiliser about 6 years ago.

I bought a car off this guy (one on ebay )
4ws didn't work told me it was a fuse !!!
air con didn't work fuse !!! cambelt hadn't been changed in over 10 yrs never told me this on the phone and I travelled on train to pick it up ........ he was a **** I don't see a problem with someone making more money , but put the damn thing right before you do ......
