thanks for helping change the downpipe gasket
going to have a look at the heatshield above the cat and refit the resonator this afternoon.

could that be one of the exhaust covers underneath the car rattling? they quite often get knocked, broken, rusted

Thanks all for your help and suggestions etc.

Yes im hoping that it turns out to be a heatshield - probably the one Vtecmec said - it looks ok but like Drax says they do rust and rattle.
If its not that then it will be exhaust off like Merlin suggested.
I refitted the intake resonator box to put the intake side of things all back to oem.
It didnt sort the problem but I think the car is running better as result of that and replacing the downpipe gasket.

I always seem to go the long way round when trying to fix stuff.

I might just stop by a garage tomorrow and see if they will stick up on the ramp so we can check all the heatshields.
