At a guess, if the earth to block isn't good enough, the coil gets cooked. Not 100% sure on the why, but seen it happen again and again when people try this :(

These things are win!

Time to ring round the local motor factors and see if any of them have a spark tester in stock. Cheers chaps.

(Hadn't read ahead before replying...)

Asked the same question as Sam.

Just can't see what difference would be

I've dipped in and out of this one, so not sure of what's been done. Has the battery been fully charged/replaced and then the engine turned on yet? My cars were all struggling so spent the weekend charging batteries, they all start on the button now :) when charging batteries make sure to use a trickle charger by the way!

Slight update, my sister in laws car failed to start today so I tried using my fully charged battery from the Lude and it still wouldn't start. Put her battery back in and jump started it with another car in the family fleet and it started.

That leads me to think that my battery is completely buggered and the charger is lying to me when it claims it is fully charged. My Legend is off in to a local garage for some work tomorrow so I'll get them to test my Lude battery to confirm if its buggered.

Check out Honda for a new battery, mine was only £40 from them. If you need one of course.

Cheers for the heads up. I'll be annoyed but relieved if it is the battery after all this. Picked up a spark plug tester earlier, 3 times the price of the one linked to earlier though but thought I needed it stat. Spent too long in the sodding cold trying to get the muffin thing to work so if it is the battery it should be a 2 minute job.

Yeah, yours would be the third battery I know of that's gone this week, it's the time of year for it!
The Honda batteries are good ones too, condition indicator and a decent guarantee.
