Thread revival!

I have almost never used the cruise control, so tried it today. At 50 mph in 5th, the car wants to surge a little and seems to drive at +/- 2 or 3 mph compared to the setting. It's much smoother at 70 mph.

I'm guessing this is nothing more than a reflection of the engine's torque characteristics, but wouldn't mind a bit of feedback.

Mine does this as well. I presume it's normal

So does mine mate.

Maybe its an older setup but I find the cruise control very "on surge" like you said, it seems to maintain speed, then it drops slightly, accelerates by itself and just keeps doing this. Its gets annoying sometimes.
I came before the chicken.. The argument is now settled!!

A well lubricated accelerator cable will help reduce the sensations you describe. That was my experience anyway.

Cheers Norks. The car is going for a service soon so will replace the cruise control part and ask them to lubricate the accelerator cable as well.

Worth double checking the vac lines that go to the cc unit, a slight leak will cause the system to fluctuate........

Yep, never had a problem with the cruise on my ludes, so either 5g cruise control isn't as good as 4g, or there's something up with the setup on yours?

Only problem I ever had was the clutch switch thinking my foot was on it and it wouldn't engage CC. I pulled the pedal up with my toes and it fixed it :)
