I would debate the hygiene point. It depends on your own personal hygiene first and foremost. Then are you sharing them, do you ever clean them, etc.

I think the condom comparison is a bit silly
different bacteria inhabit those regions (fun fact: some of the same bacteria found in the vagina is also used in dairy production, are you going to stop eating either?)
IMO you're worrying too much, and I have contamination issues myself. A bit of bacteria possibly transferring from the table to my earphones and then possibly transferring to my ear and then possibly having some detrimental result is the least of anyone's worries given the amount of other stuff we're exposed to.
I'm not saying people don't get ear infections from earbuds, but IMO as long as you're not a disgusting heathen you're probably going to be alright.
