I haven't caught up on the story since it initially broke, does this now affect cars other than the ones built to California emissions standards?

The News this evening reported that the same software is used in 11-12 million cars.

 red handed. Well done vag.

Just the same as toyota letting out loads of shoddy cars. Sign of the times when international business not only feels entitled, but in need, of illegal workarounds to problems rather than solutions.

I've been saying for years that this has been going on - how else can vehicles get claimed MPG values so wildly far away from real world usage?

VW boss just resigned. Oops.

This will only have ANY effect for the california eco nuts I bet you. We dont even have a bloody test for diesels in this country. The radio has been alive with mouthbreathers 'worried about what this means for me?' Nothing unless you live in california I bet you.

VW has been spending millions in the US on marketing of their ''really eco friendly diesels'. Guess thats all down the drain  like the stock price.

I'm a little confused with you all saying diesels aren't tested in the uk, everyday at work I see diesels on the mot bay going through the exhaust emissions pre 2008 vehicles have to be below 3 on the test after July 2008 it's got to be below 1.5

Have you been mis-sold TDi?
