OBD1 h22a ECU are auto and manual different?

Post by JEBB4 » Sun Oct 09, 2016 8:46 am

So I have bought an Auto 92 JDM BB1 4g for my engine conversion for my BB2 and I'm woundering will I need to get a Manuel ECU to make it work?

I've had a look on the net and see the yanks converting 5g ones by de soldering resistors and something.. Don if this applies to the obd1..

Any information on this and any other issues I might run into putting an auto engine with abs, cruise and 4ws into a bb2 is muchly appreciated.. ;)

Its an easy swap on a 4g.
You can just leave the ecu alone, by leaving the gear shift switc (electric slide switch on the side of the mechanical gear shifter) in place, set to neutral*. Or I think some people (mec) have changed the jumper inside the ecu that you need to solder to convert the ecu from one to the other.

*depending on what model year 4g you have, you may need to do this anyway, to stop the ignition key lock from retaining your key.

Ok so I take it that's doing a manual conversion on a auto car, same in theory I suppose however I will not have the auto shifter in the car to begin with as my bb2 is manual, so I take it I may have to do some funky wiring hack to make it think it's in neutral?? Is this purely for the key release? This ECU will be going from a 92 preface into a 94 facelift.. Might this change anything?
Cheers :)

Hang on, have I mis-understood... ?

So you have a manual car and want to convert it to auto? Ah... :suicide:

Then yes I think you would need to convert the ECU. It's all very well still having auto signals going to/from the ECU if they don't then go anywhere (if you had an auto and had converted it to manual) but that doesn't work in reverse - all the signals need to be be there and be going to the right places if you've converted a manual to an auto :D

No no Wurl, sorry I confused the jobby out of you there...

I am doing an auto to manual convertion essentially as first thought, I guess I'll just try it when the time comes, just unsure if the ECU would controls the engine properly not seeing signals from some auto box components :? ..
Saying that it's obd1 so pretty basic..

Yes, its a straight forward operation to convert to manual. Go look on PGMFI.org for loads of useful info on P13's.
