I have used pulled apart scouring pads in mine as a filter. Its one continuous piece of stainless swarf so its not likely to shed pieces and it offers a huge surface area to weight ratio. I pull them apart carefully, wash them out in solvent and scrunch them about to make sure its clean then stuff the can full of them. The big one on my 4x4 has 4 inside I think.

not sure if it would help but instead of using scouring pads what about aquatic filter sponges, cheap as chips and can be cut to shape?

yeah I think that would break down after a few thousand miles and start kicking particles of pond filter into the intake.

@vanzep, i agree its ghetto but what else could you use in a cheaper non baffled catch can? iv seen people use chain but thats heavy. I would vent to air in an NA engine but there is a question of pressure differential in a turbo like my 4x4 that makes me plumb it back in to the turbo so thats equalising as the pressuer in the head builds.
