Prelude to a build

I have the ES poly inserts fitted to one of my BB1's. With just the front done (as a 'fix' for the original being torn) it was ok.
When I (later) fitted the rear, it was awful. It is ok on the cruise (though there are more vibrations) but when you go to pull away, it basically violently shakes the dashboard off its fixings! Will undo that mod straight away when that car goes back on the road...

I think DIY polyfilling the mounts is a little softer/more 'forgiving' than the ES inserts?

Unless things have suddenly changed, new after-market versions of the oem H22 mount seem to be unavailable these days - see this post I did a year or so back.

Really? Was it that bad?!
With the rear mount filled the vibrations were annoying but the need to be 100% precise when setting off or changing gear ruined the driving experience.

The front not as bad, but the OEM feels better and there's no benefit in filled ones v's not filled.
bum droppings, I've already filled the front one. I haven't checked the rear one for damage yet but I reckon it'll following close behind the front one.
If it is I'll just try and repair it with a minimal amount of polyurethane so.
Thanks very much for the heads up before I completely ruined everything.

EDIT.
Bum droppings??? I'm guessing we're not allowed to say sheet?!

Haha nope - there's a swear filter on here (but it's amusing in its translations - like body lemonade)

Re: the rear engine mount, they really don't seem to fail at all. Much more durable than the front one.

I'm thinking I might drill a few small relief holes through the polyurethane as a preventative measure.
It might work, it might not. I've nothing to lose by trying.

EDIT.
Let's test the filter.

Well, unsurprisingly, you were all right.
And thank God I took your warnings before I went nuts and ruined my car by doing all four mounts.
Even after drilling loads of relief holes into the mount I filled with sealer, it's pretty rough at idle.
The original problem has been fixed but at what cost?!
I think I'll have a good search online and find an OE mount and fire it in instead.

EDIT.
I don't suppose anyone has a link to one by any chance, please?

I have a selection of good condition OEM rear mounts if you need one. Might be from a 4G but I can check the part numbers and see if they are likely to work.

I think this one would do for the front - it is listed as 4th gen but im sure ive seen this used on 5th gen as well.

@vanzep

That looks pretty spot on going by the pictures. I'm gonna order it now. Thank you very much.

@Merlin

Thank you very much for the offer. From getting my phone down at my rear mount and recording a video, it seems to be in reasonable condition. I'll have a proper gander when I change the front one over.
