Valuing my 95 2.2i Prelude
Hi Guys
I'd be grateful for your advice. I had my 4th gen Prelude for 20 years from new - and now I must sell it. I'd value any advice on what you think I should advertise it for.
I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules.
Thanks in advance.
Photos below (if I've done it right!)
1995 Prelude 2.2i VTEC
I have had this from new, 20 years. I love this car. It’s having to go because we need a car which will comfortably seat 4.
My wife has an MX-5, and naturally I lost the argument as to which one should go.
Mileage 137,000. Japanese import.
Good points.
Engine and power – great.
Bodywork in sound condition with some minor blemishes.
No apparent corrosion.
Sunroof replaced last year.
Original wheels recently refurbished.
4 virtually brand new tyres.
Stainless steel exhaust.
New battery last year.
Timing belt changed 113510 miles.
Full service and tyres at cost of £745 28 Feb 2015
Original handbook and showroom brochure.
Serviced yearly as evidenced by service book.
MOT until March 6th 2016
Bad points.
Aircon not working – not sure why, but not holding gas.
ABS light is on. Diagnostics report front driver’s side speed sensor failure – pretty easy to fix, but I haven’t got round to it. In fail safe mode so safe to drive.
Passenger side window not retracting, but motor does run.
More of a niggle than a problem – four wheel steering warning light comes on occasionally. Resetting one easily accessible fuse cures it.
Located in Maidstone, Kent.

Yeah, that's a lovely car.
It's not an import though, it's an original UKDM model (hence owning since new).
IMO, there probably isn't a better fully original UK 4g out there, so this should be top money, over £2k.
However, it all depends if you need a quick sale or not.
As you say, the ABS will be a simple fix. If it's a rear sensor that's gone, it will also explain your 4WS fault. If it's a front sensor that's gone, then your 4WS fault is probably the common age related fault whereby the pins on the ECU PCB just need to be re-soldered.

And for the ultra geeks... The location of the VIN plate (passenger suspension turret, rather than the slam panel)Confused wrote:Hi and welcome.
As Drax says, are you sure it's an import?
The two-piece headlights, as well as the size/shape of the number plate holders, the location of the rear fog light, and the MPH dials (with smaller kph markings in the centre) all indicate to me that it is in fact a UK spec car.

Yep, understand what you meant now.
It's a UK spec car. These would not be called an 'import' car.
All Preludes were built in Japan and "import" is commonly used to refer to cars that were originally sold in Japan, but later re-sold and imported (as used cars) to the UK.

ah yes, defo a UK then. I would still agree with Wurlycorner though, there probably isn't a better fully original UK 4g out there, so this should be top money, over £2k, depends if you need a quick sale or notraysmith48 wrote:Hi Wurlycorner
It's the driver's side front wheel speed sensor for the ABS according to the paper clip test flashes. The 4WS niggle has been there for years, so not related.
... and for Drax - the aircon controls are manual.
Thanks guys.

Plus the UK spec ones like yours are less likely to have rust issues than the imports lol
