I've just waved goodbye to the Mini.
On a trailer.
In the rain.

We were clearly not going to do anything with it for a long while yet, so decided to cut our (substantial) losses.
It managed about 20,000 miles in 8 1/2 years, none of them in the last 18 months.

Ah. That was a picture taken when we bought it.
Mechanically, the condition is pretty strong - Metro A+ engine, new rear subframe, exhaust etc. Bodywork was deteriorating, though, and the red paint was doing what red paint does, so it was quite shabby.

The new owner is a car fiend with an ex-racer for a dad. They'll do a good job on it.

Yesterday I went to the barn to do some tidying up/sorting out of bits etc and received a text from the landlord while driving there, to say the unit had been broken into overnight.

They'd broken into every unit on the site, but seemingly taken nothing.

Apparently in most of the units, it was impossible to see that they'd even touched anything. In mine, there was clear evidence they'd gone through my tool chest (so the fuzz will be asked to fingerprint that) but they've taken nothing.

So odd. Even if they were after something in particular and didn't find it, there was stuff in mine that was an easy take away and worth a good few hundred quid (e.g. the diesel genny, tools etc.) so why didn't they take that while they were in?

The worry is of course that they were just casing everything to pass info onto others who are into the kind of stuff that's there, to come back in future :(

So I've been considering sticking some CCTV in there.
No wifi, so it would need to be 3g capable and I can't be spending much (at all!)

Anyone got any experience of this kind of thing?

Casing the units is a good theory. They can then go back and steal to order if there's much there.

Mrs Sailor's shop was raided a while back, along with quite a few neighbours and a spare set of keys to the whole mini estate. The thieves first stole a Mercedes and an Audi to use as transport for the spoils. They were caught 200 miles away.
The landlord has now installed cameras.

If you do install CCTV, Iain, make sure it's highly visible (and the cameras aren't nickable!)

Forgot to post this last week, after my last run of 2017 down to Singers and back. Even through the non-stop bloody rain, they've done their bit to bring a bit of Christmas cheer. ;)

I've been told that shops have been filled with Christmas stuff since late October back in Blighty.
I bet you're all probably sick and tired of Christmas already. Ho, ho, ho.
ps, when are the fairy lights going up Graham?
