Luckiest drokk alive after epic fail

Post by RattyMcClelland » Sun Jul 28, 2013 5:31 pm

Im in my T5 Vw van.
So last night i dropped my missus off to work around 9pm in Leicester from Loughborough and it was absolutely pouring it down.
Flash floods everywhere.
Got back to my village in south Leicestershire and right though the centre section of the village which is about 40m long was absolutely flooded. One BMW 3 series was stuck in the middle with water up to the window shield. Everyone was out watching this amazing flood. The chineese was closed due to flood.

Like a kebab i decided to drive though it in the van.

BIG MISTAKE.

I dont know why but i hit the flood in 2nd gear, slowed right down and hit 1st gear. 3/4 was through the vans engine started to struggle, then smoke then stall on the way out.
AT this point i was facing my road i live on the front of the van was out of the water but the back was stuck. It was up to the top of the 16" wheels. In the deep part is was up to the top of the wheel well.
The engine wouldnt turn over. At this point i though i killed the battery.

A huge crowd gathered. I was in facepalm mode all the time.

Someone kindly offered to tow me home in his Honda FRV. What a gentleman. No brakes or anything and he effortlessly towed my home.

My mechanic mate told me not to crank the engine over as its flooded.

So today i removed the airfilter. It was soaked.
The intercooler pipe to throttle body was wet, the engine wouldnt turn.
We opened it all up and sprayed brake cleaner into the engine and gave it the beans. Slowly the engine fired back into like and coughed up an enormous of water out of the injectors and intercooler.
After some revving and pipe opening and flushing the engine started sounding normal.
Drove it and it all seems fine now. All the steam out of the exhaust is gone and alot of water gushing later.

Luckily i can work tomorrow. Drying out the filter now and will get a new one tomorrow.

I didnt sleep at all last night as i was worried.

At 4.30am i drove the Lude to pick up my missus. The whole ground was bone dry where the floor was. :o

Never drive through a flood.

Sorry no pictures. Unless i find some on facebook from the local chavs.

I'm very surprised you even considered it

They just showed a picture of an M3 in a flood on Top gear. I didn't pay attention to hear where it was as I was reading this thread  But it wasn't the same car you were talking about was it?
